While European vehicles are known for being more complex and intricate, the cooling system is typically a tricky system to repair when it comes to European made cars. The cooling system is an important one because it helps to regulate the temperature of the engine and prevent it from overheating. In European model vehicles, the cooling system is typically tucked into a hard to find area or tight among other components. This makes it more difficult to actually take apart and repair the system.

Additionally, many European vehicles have a remote reservoir to fill up the cooling system and the radiator is usually tucked behind the front grill of the chassis. This can make replacing or filling coolant tricky and more time consuming. This is referred to as a closed cooling system, whereas Asian and Domestic vehicles typically use a conventional cooling system.

A closed cooling system has a hidden radiator, which can make flushing coolant tricky. Typically, a tool called a coolant vacuum bleeder is used to to draw coolant out from the system and fill it back up with new coolant. Replacing hoses in the cooling system also requires special knowledge of European made vehicles, because the hoses connect to the engine behind a pulley or pump. Hose replacement will require removing the pulley or pump and other connecting parts, which requires a steady hand and patience.
