My Engine is Overheating...What Do I Do?

We understand that noticing your engine is overheating why driving can be a scary situation. An overheating engine can quickly leave you stranded, and can end up costing you money in repairs. The best thing you can do is get your vehicle into Eurotech Auto Service at your earliest convenience for an inspection. Getting the issue repaired as quickly as possible can prevent excessive engine damage and save you money in the long run.

Your vehicle's temperature warning light is the most common warning sign of an overheating engine. Your vehicle is letting you know that your engine is running at a temperature that is too high for proper operation. When this happens, it's important to turn your engine off. If the engine continues running at a high temperature, key components can fail, warp, or breakdown.

The most common reason why an engine overheats is low coolant. This is almost always caused by a coolant leak. Low coolant means that heat isn't being properly transferred from the engine, which means that the engine is running at a temperature much too high. Other cooling system components can also cause issues with temperature control, such as the water pump or thermostat.

As soon as you notice that your vehicle's engine is overheating, it's imperative to get your vehicle into our shop for service. First, pull your car over to a safe place and turn off the engine. Once your vehicle cools for at least 15 minutes, you can check to see if the issue is indeed low coolant. If it is, you can add coolant into the tank just to get your vehicle into our shop. You can also tow your car into our shop if that is preferred. Adding coolant to the tank likely won't fix the issue, since low coolant is probably caused by a leak. However, it can get you into our shop for an inspection.

If you notice any type of smoke coming from under the hood of your car, refrain from opening the hood. The engine components are likely super hot and you may suffer burns if you open the hood. Always make sure to give your vehicle ample time to cool down before looking at anything.

If you suspect that your engine is overheating, we invite you into Eurotech Auto Service today. Rest assured our experts will get to the bottom of the issue can get you back on the road in no time.
